A diamond sharpening disc specially developed to restore and maintain the cutting edge of pottery trimming tools directly on your pottery wheel. Its ultra-fine diamond grit, together with a backing and bonding system specifically engineered for sharpening, provides precise, even and controlled edge maintenance.

How to sharpen pottery trimming tools and loop tools

Remove the protective backing and stick the disc to a clean, dry pottery wheel bat, making sure it is properly centred.

If you prefer not to use the adhesive or a dedicated bat, the disc can also be placed directly on our pottery wheel bat grip cloth, which holds bats and sanding discs securely on the wheel without pins or other fixing systems.

Lightly wet the diamond surface with water and run the pottery wheel at a moderate, steady speed. Gently bring the cutting edge into contact with the disc, maintaining the tool's original sharpening angle or bevel and using short, controlled passes.

There is no need to apply heavy pressure: let the ultra-fine diamond abrasive do the work. A small amount of water helps reduce heat build-up and carry away the fine particles produced during sharpening.

Diamond sharpening disc for pottery trimming tools

This is not a conventional diamond sanding disc for smoothing pottery or ceramic surfaces. It has been specifically developed for sharpening and maintaining pottery tools on the wheel.

The ultra-fine diamond grit has been selected specifically for edge maintenance, while both the disc backing and the bonding system have been developed to provide precise, even and controlled sharpening.

Which pottery tools and materials can be sharpened?

The disc can be used to restore and maintain the edge of pottery trimming tools, loop tools, ribbon tools, trimming knives, sharpenable carving tools and other pottery tools with a metal cutting edge.

It is suitable for both traditional steel and stainless steel pottery tools and professional tungsten carbide trimming tools.

Steel and stainless steel: use light pressure, short passes and a moderate wheel speed, avoiding excessive heat build-up at the cutting edge.

Tungsten carbide: diamond is particularly well suited to sharpening this extremely hard material. Use very light pressure and controlled movements while maintaining the tool's original bevel.

For both materials, we recommend lightly wetting the diamond disc with water and allowing the abrasive to do the work without excessive pressure.

Do not use to sharpen diamond-coated or diamond-tipped pottery tools, including diamond sgraffito tools.

The ultra-fine grit is designed to maintain, touch up and restore a cutting edge. It is not intended for heavy grinding, repairing severely damaged edges or significantly changing the geometry of a tool.

After sharpening, remove any residue from the surface and allow the disc to dry.
