How to Make Pottery Ribs for the Wheel

Among the most common wheel-throwing tools, potters often use ribs, scrapers, or half-moon shapes. There are endless types, forms, and materials, and each has its own purpose.

To help you get started, we’re giving you free printable templates so you can cut out your own pottery ribs using expired credit cards, transport cards, or similar plastic things.

Create your own clay scrapers !

It’s easy: download and print the pottery rib template at 100% scale (make sure you don’t select “fit to page”).

Glue the printed pottery rib template onto an old plastic card (all templates are ID-1 size, the standard for credit cards, transport passes, and similar).

Cut the credit card along the outline of the paper..
